Stephanie is a good friend from high school who moved to Guatemala City upon college graduation to teach 4th grade at an international school. Shortly after moving, she was introduced to Arturo, a Guatemalan and a fellow teacher, through mutual friends. They began dating and three years later, During an excursion, which she was told was a “team-building retreat”, Stephanie found Arturo on one knee at the end of a zip line.
Living so far from home, many of her close friends and family had yet to meet Arturo, as well as get a glimpse of her current life in Guatemala. For this reason, Arturo and Stephanie both agreed that Guatemala would be the perfect place for them to wed. There were many cultural traditions from both countries that were incorporated into their bilingual Catholic ceremony. The ceremony took place in the ruins of a convent, Convento La Capuchinas, in Antigua, Guatemala.
Guatemala was truly one breathtaking photograph. Everywhere I went my eyes were in love. The textures, the colors, the nature, and the history were all inspiring. I was extremely lucky to be one of over 60 guests who traveled from the U.S. to be with Stephanie and Arturo on their special day. It was incredible to witness Stephanie and Arturo’s closest friends and family come together as one for the week and capture their beautiful love for one another in such an unbelievably gorgeous place!
One of Stephanie’s bridesmaids, Kristina, hadn’t been expected to attend the wedding due to a shocking breast cancer diagnosis just months before and a double mastectomy surgery in early November (you can follow her incredible story here). However, the night before the wedding Stephanie was shocked to find her missing bridesmaid standing before her after jumping on a last minute flight. Nothing else could have made Stephanie’s wedding day more complete.
